From your PGOLID President:
On Monday, May 13, I and my wife, Janet, attended the Annual Spring Meeting of the Pelican Lake Property Owners Association, and as guests, their board meeting and supper. Their board represents about 750 lake property members. We estimate that there are over 1020 lake property owners in the PGOLID. It was an informative and interesting meeting in which I noted that we share common interests, goals, and problems. It is obvious that the LID has the potential to allow each property owner to share in the costs of solving problems common to all residents.
For example the best solution to the placement and removal of channel markers and safety buoys is to have a professional firm hired for their care and management. Also the uncontrolled use of the DNR sponsored public access points on the east and west ends of the lake have the potential to create safety problems on and around the sites and in the lake. To have someone on these sites to monitor for Eurasian Watermilfoil and parking will be a cost that we should consider bearing for our own safety and protection from this pesky weed that is less than 200 miles away.
Otter Tail County has the responsibility and authority to inspect the privately owned septic systems and holding tanks in the LID. No doubt requests for this service will require some financial help from the LID.
PGOLID is currently monitoring on a monthly basis nine sites on the four lakes for e coli, phosphorus, chlorophyll, total suspended solids, dissolved oxygen and temperature. All these date points are iimportant in developing a comprehensive water quality study for the district.
All this and more will be discussed at our spring board meeting Saturday, June 1, beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the basement of St. Marys by the Lake Church. The meeting will include a period of public comment before the meeting is called to order. Come early, have a cup of coffee, express your thoughts and concerns, and stay or go home and play with the family.
