June 25, 2002
From your PGOLID President:
The board with several lake residents in the audience met Monday evening,
June 24, in the Cormorant Township Hall. It was a muggy, warm evening, but
cool and comfortable in the renovation and new addition to the old Town
Hall. In fact, the board will host the Aug 10 Annual meeting in this
facility, starting at 8:30 on that Saturday morning. Saturday is also the
kick off for a new Cormorant Village Festival at Noon. Come to the Annual
meeting, visit the food courts, and the big tent down by the Pub. The
annual meeting agenda includes the annual 2003 budget approval, election of
three directors, and reports on septic system inspection, insect control,
Eurasian Milfoil monitoring, weed control, water quality and long range
planning for water management. Each of you will receive a notice of the
meeting time and place.
Our next board meeing is at Fair Hills Resort on Saturday July13, 7:00 a.m.
and we will fine tune our 2003 budget request and establish the parameters
of a comprehensive water quality plan, which will be presented to the
property owners for approval and conducted in 2002-2003 time frame.
Duie to the efforts of your editor,Sherry Trepp, and Jeff Peltier, and Paul
Horvick your LID now has an official website. It is www.pgolid.org and is
only a keystroke away. Look to this site for news and views, approved
minutes, budget and project updates.
On behalf of the board and their action, I am requesting permission and
approval by the Otter Tail County Commissioners to include in our LID
authority the ability to contract for mosquito and insect control in the
years to come. We have a contract for 2002 with TS Mosquito Control as
described in the May Newsletter. No doubt the recent rains and hot weather
will bring the pesky critters back into our lives again. We have not heard
of Tent Caterpillars to date on the beaches that were sprayed with BT . I
hear of massive defoliation near Franklin Lake. Be sure to let me know if
there are any "hotspots" in the LID. We could spot spray in 2003 if we
know where they are going to lay eggs for next year's crop.
Also, on behalf of the board and their action, I am requesting that the
Dept of Land and Water Resources Management, Otter Tail County place the
PGOLID property on the 2003-2004 schedule for septic system monitoring and
testing. Recall that this was done in 1983-1984 and over 400 sustems were
found to be not in compliance. The remarks attached to the sewer and water
survey consistantly suppported this action by the board. Copies of the
remarks on the survey have been collected and bound without sources and are
available at the Pelican Rapids Library for your viewing.
The board is concerned about the uncontrolled DNR sponsored Public access
ramps on the East and West ends of Pelican Lake. We are investigating
proper methods to monitor the incoming boats for weeds, especially Eurasian
Milfoil.
